SXSW AFTERMATH

..Better late than never, right?

It's been a little over month since SXSW has left all of us Austinites (transplants) behind and I feel as though I'm still trying to recover. Throughout the seven days of the seemingly forever-long festival, I worked 45+hrs on one of the loudest and busiest streets of the fest, received less than four hours of sleep each night, never got home earlier than 3:30am, and walked over 10.2 miles in two days. It hurts my legs and makes my brain turn to mush thinking about how many miles I walked total that week. Needless to say, my legs felt like jello and my eyes felt like raisins for two weeks straight once South By ended.

Despite my body nearly failing me and being extremely exhausted, I did have a lot of fun. I was able to see the bands I wanted to see, hang out with friends I don't see near enough, ate free food and drank free drinks, discovered new bands while soaking up the sun like a cat, and somehow only managed to spend $3 total. I, too, am impressed.

Though the week had thousands of bands and events to offer, I was only able to catch a few. My week consisted of my ears and eyes being blessed by Solange, Charli XCX, Master P, Wild Cub, Jim James, Cirque du Soleil, Beach Fossils, Polyphonic Spree, The Orwells, Foxygen, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Phosphorescent, The Rocketboys, The Wealthy West, and THE SPECIALS. Never in one hundred years would I have thought I'd have the chance to see The Specials! Despite my lack of exclamation marks, I was beyond excited.

WISHLIST WEDNESDAY

IT'S MARCH. MARCH! My mind is blown on how fast February flew by and I'm so not prepared for anything that March has to offer! I have a love/hate relationship when it comes to Spring. It just means Summer is that much closer (and let's be real, Texas summers are a big thumbs down) and it means that Austin will be over populated with an extra 50,000 people for at least a week. BUT! With SXSW coming up next week and Texas already hitting 90 degrees, what more of an excuse do you need to revamp your closet?! Spring is the second best season to shop for (Fall comes first). You finally have the chance to show your legs (sans stockings) in shorts and dresses, wear sunglasses almost 24/7 without looking like a tool, put bright colors on your lips, AND you have a last chance of wearing a leather jacket without yet sweating! So this is my March wishlist, full of my many lustworthy things I "need" for the season. What are your must-haves for Spring?

MUSIC MONDAY

It's already February, which means it's almost Spring, which means it's almost "festival season", which means I'm totally not prepared. With  both SXSW + Coachella rolling around in just a few months, I find myself already stressing and pulling hair over trying to RSVP to as many parties as I can and trying to decide which bands I want to see over others. Thankfully, with festivals come tons of bands that are on tour; so if you miss one of your favorite bands or you're unable to attend said festival(s), fear not! You'll most likely have a chance to catch them in a city near yours.

One of those bands you shouldn't miss is The Rocketboys. The band begins their twenty-four day Spring tour this Friday (02.15) in Kansas city, MO and make their way throughout the Midwest + Northeast (with an Atlanta and New Orleans date too), and eventually end back in Texas just in time for SXSW. They'll be joined on the road by Mike Mains & The Branches and Dinner and a Suit. So if you're into clapping, dancing, and all things fun, I suggest you brave the blizzard storms and make your way to one of their gigs. Click here for full tour dates + the option to download a free tour ep!

Until then, if you live in or around the Austin area, come see The Rocketboys play after "Best New Artist" Fun.Stubb's this Tuesday (02.12) night. Click here for tickets.

And last, but not least - watch their 2013 Spring tour promo video shot by David Ruiz!
